We met at RHS Rosemoor where Jean was able to lead us on a tour as she used to work at the gardens.
It was just like old times to be walking the garden with Jean, just a different garden in a different country.
When we left our accomodation it was grey with a bit of moisture in the air. When we started the garden tour the sky started to clear and it continued to get clearer and sunnier as the day wore on.
After saying our goodbyes J & P headed off to a funeral (hence their formal attire) and we ventured to Clovelly, a historical hill side fishing village.
We walked the pebbled, steep steps through the historic village nestled on the cliff and down to the beach.
The town is owned by one family and has only changed hands twice in the last five hundred years. No cars are allowed through the streets which are very narrow and steep. Walking is not easy on the mortared pebbles, however going up is easier than going down. We were able to walk through a few of the buildings. One of which was a house set up as it would have been a hundred or so years ago.
There are people living in the village and given how close the houses are to each other it felt a bit like we were encroaching on their privacy.
I made a new friend whilst sitting and looking out at the view. All in all it was a village like no other and apart from the initial visitor centre commercialised experience it was an enjoyable thing to do on such a beautiful day.
We ended the day with a meal and Cider at The Bell Inn. Travel to and back was mostly on one lane roads.

What a wonderful day...didn't know you had taken the cat with you Jen? Never knew this place existed?
ReplyDeleteGee Clovelly looks lovely, but only 3 famililies in 500 years, people live to be a ripe old age over there dont they?
ReplyDeleteLovely little village though, and great that you are having some sunny weather
