Reflection on Scotland
Today we left Scotland after our brief tour. We found most of the towns and cities to be clean and tidy with obvious effort made to keep them so. Funnily enough the shores of some of the lochs showed that not everyone is responsible for their rubbish. We were puzzled by the lack of signs for some of the natural sights; you need to be on the lookout for unmarked roads and (sometimes) parking spots. Lochs and mountains are spectacular and we had the added bonus of mostly good weather and of snow in the highlands. Here it is still light until at least 9pm which extends the experience. Our B&Bs were all good to very good; a few were particularly good value. Although we avoided cities where possible we could not avoid the plethora of roundabouts which surround them. Better than traffic lights but even with both of us and navgirl combining our efforts it was never easy to find the right lane and the right exit. Some roundabouts have traffic lights as well! Roads are varied with all sorts experienced on any journey; drivers are generally good with occasional speed freaks who overtake enthusiastically only to brake equally dramatically to get back in again. There was much more to be seen than we had time for but we were more than pleased with what we achieved.
