I have reverted to using my phone to write this post as my IPad is not charging. A cause of great disappointment and frustration. Im hoping that dropping into a nearby Apple Store tomorrow will get me back on track. It is amazing how lost I feel without it as I am using it for photos, maps and storing copies of travel documents. This may come as a relief to some that the smaller keyboard will undoubtedly keep this post short.
Today we drove to Pickering to catch the North Yorkshire Moors Railway to Whitby.
This was something we had planned to do right back when making travel arrangements, we just had to find a railway that was running regularly this early in the season.
We left Pickering at 12 noon and arrived at Whitby 1.45 after travelling through beautiful Yorkshire country side and little towns.
Whitby was an absolutely delightful town to spend almost 3 hours.
It is a very popular place with hundreds of people walking the streets and they hadn't all come on the train we are sure.
We started by climbing the 199 stone steps to the Church, Cemetery and Abbey ruins at the top.
The views over all of Whitby were amazing from the top so we spent quite some time exploring before coming back down via a different path.
From one of the many fish and chip shops we bought the traditional Whitby fare before making our way back to Pickering on the last Steam Train for the day.
Yeah what a wonderful place to spend the day, it's a great pity we didn't get the train, I don't think it was running then though, so that would have been out and we went in via Heartbeat country. Certainly well worth doing though and a must when in England.
