Comedy of Errors

I write this post after having returned from our dinner in the town of Stratford Upon Avon (Shakespeare's birth place). It was a late dinner at 9.00 as we didn't venture out until 8.00 and we didn't have a booking. But I get ahead of myself.
We left York this morning at 10 am and it was pretty much solid driving with hardly a photo stop. One town we travelled through had traffic moving very slowly due to an event happening in the town to Celbrate the 70th Anniversary of VE Day. Some people were dressed in 'period' clothing.

We did  make a stop to replenish supplies and withdraw some cash and another brief stop for a bite to eat on the side of the road. We were making our way to Stratford Upon Avon for a bit of a look before heading to our B&B at Banbury, or so we thought.
It was only last night when I Google searched for Avonlea Guest House  ready for directions ( it was the only B&B that we by accident had not added the address onto our itinerary spreadsheet) that I read that it was actually 30 minutes from Stratford U A not actually in Stratford U A. This surprised us as we thought we were staying in the thespian town. Hence we stopped off for a look on the way, sort of. Again, a very popular town, traffic everywhere and no car parks to be seen. As time was against us we pressed on to the Banbury B&B. We spent quite sometime in frustration going back and forth trying to make sense of the written directions wondering why they didn't just list the actual street address on the website only to discover as we were about to approach the instructions for the third time that the street address was at the very bottom of the page in very small font. It made all the difference and we drove into the last car park at the establishment signed 'Avonlea' went up to the door and rung the bell. The lady who came to the door said she had no booking for us and no more rooms. I asked if there was a Rob managing the bookings as per my email ( a copy of which I produced) when she realised and said "do you think you might be booked into Avonlea at Stratford". I said that I originally thought we were to be at Stratford U A and that is when I realised that my Google search in the morning had produced the wrong B&B. If only I had used the link on the email to find the website instead of typing in a Google search all would have been okay. So the lady, who said this had happened a couple of times before kindly looked up the address for us and we made the 30 minute drive back to Stratford Upon Avon arriving at 6.30 a little bit frazzled and 'over' driving for the day.
So here we are, at Avonlea-Stratford Guest House. Our welcome was warm, our room is pleasant and comfy, we had a lovely walk around the town before dinner, a very satisfying meal and have wandered back to the guest house. Tomorrow is another day as we head for Devon.
