Gorging on Cheddar

This morning after a sensational English Breakfast and catching up with Mother's Day messages to and from home we departed from Avonlea and the hectic by day, theatrical by night Stratford Upon Avon.

Another big day on the road travelling 200miles/ 300km's.
The houses and buildings were predominantly red brick as we travelled the first leg of our journey and then as we  made our way through the edge of the Cotswolds they were the familiar light honey colour.
The scenery also changed throughout the day as well as the size and ambiance of the towns.
We went a little out of our way south of Bristol to pass through the unique Cheddar Gorge.
We have passed through a few Gorges this holiday particularly in Ireland and Scotland and while they have been stunning too this one just seemed so very out of character with its surrounds so it seemed like we passed through another world.
We don't do very much travelling on the motorways as we prefer to experience the little towns and villages on the way, this often means a series of 6 or more roundabouts half a mile apart when passing through a town before getting a 8 maybe 9 mile stretch of driving. Some roads change from two way traffic to a single track with the occasional pullover to let oncoming traffic pass. There is no such thing as mundane driving and the driver can never let their guard down, it is quite intense even as s passenger trying to help forewarn of on coming traffic and round about exits.
We are now in Devon and we drove along a short stretch of the North Devon coast then through Exmoor and we are now back at the coast near to Clovelly.
Our B&B is a genuine historic Farm house on a working Farm.

We are loving it, even the very reserved Rod has made comments like 'perhaps we could come back here again and stay a week'.
Tonight dinner at the Hoops Inn another traditional style pub with a thatched roof this time.
Tomorrow more about Clovelly and  meeting with Jean and Philip ex neighbours from the late 80's early 90's.

  1. What beautiful places but you are almost finished and it will not be soon before you are back here to the everyday mundane life so enjoy it whilst ye can. Stay safe.

  2. That was a bit cruel, remember your turn is soon and that too will be over all too soon. Oh by the way where has Sandy gone, no comments since we left Scotland!
